6. JULY  2008 - KNOWLE WEST BOY RELEASED!
Tricky's new album "Knowle West Boy" was released on Friday in Germany and will be released tomorrow in the UK (and probably the rest of Europe?). After listening to it a couple of times I must say I like it, although it's not as great as my favorite albums (PMT, AWDF). I really like some of the songs, especially the slower ones like "Past mistake", "Cross to bear" and "School Gates", but also "Coalition" which reminds me musically and lyrically of "Money Greedy" or "Tear out my eyes". The booklet is a big letdown, it doesn't even have proper credits (who wrote the songs, who sang, who played which instruments etc.). Also the lyrics are not in the booklet, so I tried to write down the lyrics, if you want to help, send me an email!!!
There's an interesting little video at the Domino website, where Tricky explains who the people on the back of the CD cover are (it's an old family photo), I also wrote it down with the scans of the CD artwork, check it out here
There are two cover songs on the album: Veronika is a cover song of "Livido Amniotico " of the Italian band Subsonica. The singer of that band, Veronika, obviously translated the lyrics into English (or wrote new lyrics?) and recorded the song with Tricky. You can see a live version of the original song here. And "Slow" is a cover of the Kylie Minogue hit, written by Emiliana Torrini. Check out cover me for details.

1. JULY 2008 - RELEASES
There's some confusion on my end about the release of "Council Estate". It should have been released yesterday, but all I can find to buy is a double 7 inch vinyl. A release on CD is announced on Amazon.com for August 5 in the US.
About the album "Knowle West Boy": Amazon.de lists a release date of July 4 (for Germany), while other sellers say July 7 (for the UK). The album will be released on CD and vinyl.

5. JUNE 2008 - WIN AN iPOD!
There is a remix competition for Tricky's single "Council Estate" at Relab. You can submit your remix until the release of the single (June 30), and the remix with the most votes wins an 80GB iPod!

27. MAY 2008 - TRICKY ON BBC RADIO

25. MAY 2008 - TRICKY ON JOOLS HOLLAND
In case you missed Tricky on Later with Jools Holland on Friday or didn't have a chance to see it, here are two videos on You Tube: Council Estate and Puppy Toy. I must say I'm really (positively) surprised by Puppy Toy, reminds me of the "Angels with Dirty Faces" era...
[Thanks to Tristan for this info and for sharing the videos!]

21. MAY 2008 - SEVERAL NEWS
Check out the cover for Tricky's new album "Knowle West Boy" on Amazon! You can also hear some of the album tracks (Puppy Toy, Past Mistake, Council Estate and a South Rakkas remix of Council Estate) on his MySpace site! MySpace has also the cover for the single "Council Estate".
Tricky was on Later with Jools Holland (BBC 2) yesterday, you can see a short interview with him here (and probably also the show with his live performance will be online later?). As you can read on knowlewestboy.com there will be another live performance on the show on Friday (23. May).

5. C’mon Baby
6. Council Estate
7. Past Mistake

According to Billboard Tricky will start a European tour on June 13 in Vicenza, Italy. A US tour will follow in autumn. The article also mentions the content of the bonus CD to Vulnerable: "The enhanced CD will feature the Stephane Sednaoui-directed video for "Antimatter," as well as an interview with Tricky, and three guerilla-style films conceived and co-directed by the artist. The "Antimatter" video will be premiered in Paris at Palais de Tokyo during a month-long exhibition of Tricky's digital photography that opens April 29."

7. APRIL 2003 - ANOTHER CONCERT IN FRANCE
Tricky will also play in Lille on July 4 (Zenith Arena). You can buy tickets at Fnac.
[Thanks to Guy for this info!]

1. APRIL 2003 - NEW COVER AND OTHER NEWS
Anti has a different cover for 'Vulnerable' now on their web site
(see on the right). Other little news:
1) Radio artist Joe Frank used Tricky's Ponderosa' in his show "Justine", also Massive Attack's "Protection" and "Weather Storm" in the show "Lost Soul". You can listen to the last one online on his web site, to the first unfortunately not.
2) 'Where I'm From' from 'Vulnerable' has the same music as the live track "Ace Of Spades" that Tricky was playing for a while. But the lyrics are different, the female singer is even rapping in Italian!
3) Two Tricky songs have been used in the TV series "24": Christiansands in the first episode (as you can read here), Bury The Evidence in the third episode!

28. MARCH 2003 - TOUR DATES
Tricky will play the Berlinova, a new German festival in Luckau near Berlin, in June (14th and 15th)! His performance should start on Saturday (14th) at 0.30. You can see the complete lineup (and buy tickets, 35 Euro for both days) here. And also you can buy tickets at Fnac for a concert in Paris (Le Zenith) on June 26.

27. MARCH 2003 - VULNERABLE SOUNDS
You can download some sounds from Auralgasms for two new Tricky songs: 'Car Crash' and 'The Lovecats' (a Cure cover). Also 'Dear God' is a cover song, originally performed by XTC.

26. MARCH 2003 - VULNERABLE & OTHER NEWS
Anti made a little page about 'Vulnerable' which also has the cover artwork. Tricky did the three photos himself, as you can read besides the photos. The web site also has new biography with interesting news: Tricky now lives in L.A., where the album was recorded. He decided to work with Constanze Francavilla after she sent him a demo of her own songs last year. She will also release a solo album later on Tricky's label, which is now called Urban Poison / Dark Brown. Tricky himself calls Vulnerable "the best record I've done", also he says: "Vulnerable is me breaking free and being myself again".

25. MARCH 2003- EVEN OLDER SOUNDS!
Tricky recorded a song with the Irish Hip Hop group ScaryEire in 1993 called "R U A Friend" (listen to it here). The song features a lot of lyrics from Maxinquaye songs (mostly Ponderosa). Unfortunately the song was never released officially, because ScaryEire had problems with their record label Island.
[Thanks to Thorben and Kieran for this info!]
Other little news: Also NME lists the release of 'Vulnerable' for May 19.

23. MARCH 2003 - NEW PICS AND OLD SOUNDS
The official Tricky web site at Anti now lists the album 'Vulnerable', too, with the release date May 19. It also has some new photos online (photographer: Tricky!).
My discography was missing three releases that are now added: Paul Oakenfold's single "The Harder They Come" was released in February and surprisingly it is a different version than on the album 'Bunkka'. The female vocalist is Keisha White instead of Nelly Furtado, the Tricky vocals are still the same. Check out details and sounds in the discography
Tricky also collaborated with Kool Keith and others last year, the result is a song from the album 'Game', called "Run Dem Red". Read more about the album in the discography
And last but not least Tricky's remix of 'Le Grand Secret' by Indochine was released in January (see discography). It seems there also an instrumental version of this remix exising, but I don't know where it is released...

19. MARCH 2003 - VULNERABLE REVIEW
Check out a first review of Tricky's new album here. Although the release date is May 19 you can already find the tracks on the net...

5. MARCH 2003 - BONUS DVD WITH NEW ALBUM
Roger from Anti Record told me that Tricky's next album will be released May 19. The tracklist will be as listed below, with one exception: track 08 is called "Hollow" and not "My Mermaid". Also he said: > ...first single is antimatter. the first pressing of the cd will be a cd + a bonus dvd with interviews, photo gallery, clips, live performances... <
Other good news: a first single from Martina's solo album called "Need One" will be released April 7 (read more here).

3. MARCH 2003 - NEW ALBUM 'VULNERABLE' IN MAY
According to the french magazine Les Inrockuptibles Tricky will release his next album on May, 16. The female parts are this time done by the italian singer Costanza Francavilla, who also did vocals on 'My Head'. The title of the album is 'Vulnerable', and here's the tracklist:

03. Ice Pick
04. Car Crash
05. Dear God
06. How High
07. What is Wrong

24. JANUARY 2003 - INDOCHINE REMIX

The last news update in the year 2002: There are even more Tricky songs in the movie "Bad Company" that are featured on the soundtrack - even two unreleased songs, called "Real People" and "Matrix". Check out my movies page for details.

13. NOVEMBER 2002 - TRICKY'S BENEFIT RECORD!?

[Thanks to Marcos for this info!]

3. NOVEMBER 2002 - A NEW TRICKY REMIX
According to this site, Tricky has done a remix for Indochine, the song is called "Le grand secret". A promo CD with this remix was once sold on ebay (for a minimum of 20 Euro). It will also be released as a b-side of the "Le Grand Secret" single (no release date yet).
[Thanks to Alessio and Julien for this info!]

4. OCTOBER 2002 - DAVE COURTNEY ON TOUR AND CD

25. JULY 2002 - DVD RELEASE IN THE UK
According to NME the "Ruff Guide" DVD will be released in the UK on Monday (July 29). Like the version I have it doesn't contain the three live tracks...

23. JULY 2002 - ALL ABOUT THE DVD
The "Ruff Guide" DVD version was released yesterday! It contains 13 videos (plus 'Poems' as a "hidden" video, if you want to read how to find it, check the discography) and the documentary "Naked & Famous" from 1997. The documentary can only be watched in English without subtitles. The German edition doesn't have the live tracks that were announced on Amazon for the French version.

22. JULY 2002 - OUT TODAY
The DVD version of Tricky's best-of album "A Ruff Guide" will be released today (in Germany and France at least), more about that tomorrow. Also the collaboration of Tricky and Rico (an EP called "Mixed Up Faces") will be released today in the UK, you can hear the song already on the official Rico web site.
[thanks to Tomaso for this info!]

20. JULY 2002 - NEWS UPDATE
Here are the news from last week while I was away:
- the release of the "Ruff Guide" DVD is pushed back again, to July 22 (next Monday)
- at the same day Tricky's collaboration with Rico will be released
- another big update with additions to the samples, the promo and solo discography (Japanese PMT CD with a hidden track!) and a new section (lyrics) will follow soon!

9. JULY 2002 - FRENCH DVD DELAYED
Although Amazon announced the "Ruff Guide" DVD for July 8, it is now delayed until July 15. This is also the release date for other European countries like Germany.

30. JUNE 2002 - LOTS OF NEW RELEASES
According to DocRock Show the new single 'You Don't Wanna' will be released on July 1 - which is tomorrow! The german music web site also talks about a re-release of Blowback as a double CD with 7 bonus tracks, so it looks like the french version (see discography) will also be released in other countries! According to the german Amazon the release date is August 5.
Then I finally found a tracklist for the 'A Ruff Guide' DVD on the french Amazon, it will contain almost all the video, plus the documentary "Naked & Famous" plus 3 live tracks recorded for MTV:
01. Aftermath
02. Black Steel
03. Broken Homes
04. Christiansands
05. For Real
06. Hell Is Round The Corner
07. Makes Me Wanna Die
08. Money Greedy
09. Naked & Famous
10. Overcome
11. Ponderosa
12. Pumpkin
13. Tricky Kid
14. Poems (Nearly God Collaboration)
• Le Documentaire de 52 minutes « Naked and Famous » en 1998

According to Amazon it will be released in France on July 8, in Germany on July 15 (see Musicpeople).

27. JUNE 2002 - YOU DON'T WANNA VIDEO, DO YOU?
Interesting news from Anti: Check out their Tricky site to see the video for "You Don't Wanna" in real video! The video has another song in the middle, "Unofficial", which can be found on the french limited edition of 'Blowback' (see discography for details). It has vocals by Tricky and a rapper called Phatt Black. You can also watch the video by clicking on these links directly: 34k or 300k.

26. JUNE 2002 - CONFUSIONS OF ILLUSIONS
Some more confusions about the release of Paul Oakenfold's album "Bunkka": Obviously it was released in the US already on June 18, in the UK on June 24, but in Germany it is not released yet. According to Amazon it will be out on July 8. I've updated the remix discography...
And the 'You Don't Wanna' single which should - according to Anti - be released on June 24, didn't show up in any shop or internet mailorder.

18. JUNE 2002 - BUNKKA DELAYED TOO, DVD IN THE UK?
According to Amazon also the UK release of Paul Oakenfold's album "Bunkka" (with the Tricky / Nelly Furtado collaboration "The Harder They Come") is delayed until June 24 (release date for the US is July 2, and for Germany either July 1 or 8).
Amazon UK lists the release date of the "Ruff Guide" DVD still as June 17, so maybe it is already released in the UK? If anybody has seen it or knows anything about it, please let me know....

17. JUNE 2002 - DVD DELAYED
The DVD version of "A Ruff Guide" that should have been out today is obviously delayed. At least my local record store told me the new release date is July 15. But at least Cyber CD mentions what will be on the DVD: 11 videos and 3 live tracks (at least on an import version - released on May 28 -that you can order there for 55.19 Euro).

14. JUNE 2002 - TRICKY & RICO

6. JUNE 2002 - GERMAN TRICKY SITE & NEWSLETTER
I discovered an advertisement for Tricky's best of album "A Ruff Guide" today, take a look here. The most interesting part of it is a link to a new official Tricky web site (all in German) with a newsletter and a review for the album. You can also get a free newsletter on your mobile by writing a SMS with the word "tricky on" to the number 72477 (in Germany only).

29. MAY 2002 - A RUFF GUIDE CORRECTED
It seems that the tracklists published on NME and eil.com were both not correct. Check out the correct tracklist in the discography.

28. MAY 2002 - THE FUTURE
There are lots of big news today: First of all Tricky cancelled all his tourdates this summer (Werchter Festival, T In The Park, Witnness Festival, Vieilles Charrues Festival)! Sorry for everyone who wanted to go! The reason for this is NOT that he lost the support of his record company (as some of these festival web sites may have announced), but that he's working on a new album which will be released on Anti, who "fully support him for the future to come" (according to Roger from Anti Records). His new single "You Don't Wanna" will (finally) be released on June 24.
[thanks a lot to Roger for these infos!]

Ko-La's song "What's It Gonna Be" will be a b-side of Tricky's upcoming single 'You Don't Wanna' (listen to it here). According to people at Anti Records the next single 'You Don't Wanna' will not be released before January, because the video is not shot yet.

08. DECEMBER 2001 - YOU DON'T WANNA
I just got my copy of the 'You Don't Wanna' single today (thanks to the great people at Epitaph!), so I've added sounds to the discography. The b-sides include 'What's It Gonna Be' by Ko-La (produced by Tricky's drummer Perry Melius and his bass player Wayne Nunes, executive producer is Tricky) and an unreleased Tricky song called 'Intro Outro' (with Hawkman, Tricky and Tricky's brother Marlon on vocals). I still don't know any release date for this single, but i'll keep you updated.

21. NOVEMBER 2001 - QUESTION
The song 'Question' - a collaboration with Alanis Morissette - was up to now not released anywhere (only played in a radio show). But the song can be found on a Canadian promo CD with the titles 'Diss Never', check out details in the promo discography.
[Thanks to Swami for this info!]

03. NOVEMBER 2001 - YOU DON'T WANNA
As I heard from Anti Records yesterday, "You Don't Wanna" will be the next single, though no release date is set yet, but the song and video will be sent out by the end of this month. The surprising thing is that one of the b-sides is a track by a girl-band called Ko-La (according to Tricky 'the first credible girlband worldwide'), the other is an unreleased song by Tricky.
This is the tracklisting:
1. Tricky - You Don't Wanna (Radio Edit)
2. Ko-La - What's It Gonna Be
3. Tricky - Intro Outro
See the bigger cover picture here.
[Big thanks to Roger from Anti!!!]

8. OCTOBER 2001 - LONDON SHOW
According to Aloud.com Tricky plays one show in London on November 21 (Shepherds Bush Empire), more European tourdates will probably follow. And according to Ticketline he also plays in Manchester on the 19th.

A remix CD of Tricky will be released on October 1 through Universal Music. # Mad Dog won't be on the new album, he will record a solo album
# Tricky will focus himself as much as he can on his own work, so less co-operations with other artists
# on the new album he wants to give it a lot of energy and finish the songs, not like in the past when he just put his demos on the CDs
# the new album will not sound like Mission Accomplished, he regards that EP as something inbetween to fill up the gap
# the album he did with Mad Dog (once called "Street Dog and Scrappy Love") is very much just improvization by the two, but as both are working solo Tricky doesn't want to release the album in the near future

9. NOVEMBER 2000 - Q & A
I've got the answers to all the questions you sent me about Tricky, read them here. They not only reveal details about Tricky leaving Island, but also the vocalist featured on 'Mission Accomplished', which is a bit of a surprise!

7. NOVEMBER 2000 - REGGY KRAY DEAD
British gangster Reggie Kray died of bladder cancer in October, as you can read here. So the collaboration with Tricky that was announced at NME earlier (maybe it was only a rumour anyway) will never happen.

Read a first review of 'Mission Accomplished' at nme.com! They call 'Mission Accomplished' a >>truly unlistenable Tricky record<<.

31. OCTOBER 2000 - VIDEO
Mark Thwaite, guitarist who recorded with Tricky for the new album, told me this:>>Award winning artist Steve McQueen was filming the recent recording session we made a few weeks ago, so hopefully will get a future DVD release at some point.<<

25. OCTOBER 2000 - ANSWERS & QUESTIONS
According to Tricky's management the definite release date for 'Mission Accomplished' is November 6th in Europe (check out the cover art and biographical information) and February 6 in the US.
Some other infos: The album will feature Ambersunshower (with whom Tricky already did one song, 'Chaos') and Hawkman, a new Durban Poison artist. It will be released in summer/fall 2001, a tour is not planned before next year. Although Shaun Ryder and Tricky are friends, they didn't record anything together, nor did Tricky and Bahamadia (like some online magazines said earlier).
The management offered me to ask them a bunch of questions, so send me a mail with your favourite question about Tricky and I'll collect and send the best and most interesting!

24. OCTOBER 2000 - TRICKYONLINE
According to Tricky's management the TrickyOnline.com website will be redone soon. Currently they're recruiting people for a Tricky newslist. If you want to be added to the list, send me an email!

22. OCTOBER 2000 - AUDIO MISSION
The new Tricky EP 'Mission Accomplished' will be released in Europe tomorrow, check out first audio snippets:
1. Mission Accomplished
2. Crazy Claws
3. Tricky vs. Lynx (live)
4. Divine Comedy

19. OCTOBER 2000 - FIRST 'MISSION' BRIEFING
Here's a short review of the new EP from Scott:
>> Beware all those who hate Mad dog, he's back. IMO, he's brilliant. This release is much more hip hop orientated vocal wise, music is AWDF style live band feel.
Mission Accomplished:
Live sounding track with upfront riff, sounds quite similar to "Mission
Impossible" theme. Tricky on nearly unintelligible vocals, with a female on backing, sounding quite Grace Jones-esque (but it isn't). Feels most similar to AWDF. Weakest track on EP.
Crazy Claws:
Little jungle loop, cool bassline. Trick on vocals first, then Mad Dog takes over. I think the next MC is Tony from the baby Namboos, He's definately a UK MC. Those offended by faintly sexist rhymes, steer clear.
Tricky Vs Lynx:
Mad Dog solo style. Only 2:43 long.
Divine Comedy:
You all know this from the bootlegs.<<

17. OCTOBER 2000 - ALBUM DETAILS
Mark Thwaite's web site says that he (a guitarist, who worked with Tricky since 1999) also plays guitar on 'Mission Accomplished' along with other tour musicians: >> Further recordings are planned with the full Tricky band lineup of Perry Melius (drums), Wayne Nunes (bass), Gareth Bowen (keyboards/samplers) and Mark in a London studio at the end of September.<<
The site also says about the album: >> Aside from the EP tracks, there are a further 14 recorded due for release Summer 2001.<<

16. OCTOBER 2000 - TRICKY NOMINATED FOR AWARD

In the latest issues of UK music Magazine Select and Q there are interviews with Finley Quaye about his new briliant LP "Vanguard". He is asked about Tricky in both pieces and both give the same details about  his relationship with Tricky, here is the Q comment.
"...and he's reconciled with Tricky, who may or may not be his cousin.
They're planning to make an album together."

25. SEPTEMBER 2000 - MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
According to Intro the new single 'Mission Accomplished' will have four tracks, but the song titles are still unknown, as the promotion agency didn't have any more pressinfos.

16. SEPTEMBER 2000 - NEW EP: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
Mission Accomplished is definitely the name of the EP, not the album, as Emerson found out via email from Epitaph:
>>We have signed Tricky in Europe for the full-length, but only for the EP in America. The EP is called Mission Accomplished.  We are still trying to decide on the release date, but it's looking like it's going to be in February.<<

15. SEPTEMBER 2000 - MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
Emerson called the Epitaph label in California and tells me this:
>>I asked them when the Tricky album will be coming out and she said
it would be released in February 2001 and that the name would be
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED<<
The German mailorder Cyber CD lists the following, only that they say 'Mission Accomplished' is a single, not an album:
Tricky - Mission Accomplished - CD single - ANTI - 20.10.00
Tricky - t.b.a. - CD - ANTI - 30.12.00

14. SEPTEMBER 2000 - NAKED & FAMOUS FAKE
According to David, PR rep, the tracklisting and album title "Naked & Famous" was only a fake! He writes at the Apocalypse message board:
>>Now, for true information: Tricky is currently recording an album and it is like nothing like he's ever done...surprise, surprise. We do not have a confirmed date, but are aiming for early 2001. In addition, his autobiography will be released around the same time and contain a cd of unreleased and remixed tracks from the newest album. Also, we are hoping to release a live album in the summer of 2001. Tricky plans to tour through the spring and summer.<<

14. SEPTEMBER 2000 - NEW ALBUM JUST A RUMOUR!
Scott sent me the following: >> I got in touch with someone at DHR and they said that Alec Empire has done no production work on any of tricky's music. They did say it sounded like a good idea though.<<
So the whole story about the new album could be just a rumour, especially since Epitaph's web site doesn't say anyting baout a new Tricky album.(Thanks a lot to Scott for this info!)

6. SEPTEMBER 2000 - ALL I HEAR IS WORDS

2. SEPTEMBER 2000 - NAKED & FAMOUS
Someone sent me the ground breaking news that Tricky has finished his next album entitled 'Naked & Famous'! He has the info from the sound engineer Austen Lord (See the tracklist and other details here):
>> Lord could only say that once again Tricky has found a new sound. This is a very guitar-heavy, "Timbaland style" drum programing, soulful, and harmonic. His rapping is the same and lyrics range from everything from oral sex to satin worshiping. The stand out classic tracks are "Ashes Vs. Dust", "Illgotten" with DJ Milo of the Wild Bunch, a semi-radio-friendly R&B atempt "Libido", and a brilliant string-filled  cover of Prince & The Revolution's "Darling Nikki". Drawbacks include the title track (horrible)and the poor hip-hop display on "Street Dog and Scrappy Love". The one that will cause the controversy will be "When Chistel,The Rain" (sic). The song is a seven minute noisefest where Tricky rants about having sex with Satin and Jewish children. >>

27. AUGUST 2000 - REGGIE KRAY
The album of imprisoned Reggie Kray, which Tricky was rumoured to contribute one track (as NME reported in May), will probably never happen. As the news said yesterday Reggie Kray will be released from prison, because he has a fatal disease and only some weeks left to live.

27. AUGUST 2000 - NO NEW TRICKY TRACK???
It seems the Smashing Pumpkins tribute album (which should contain one cover song by Tricky) was only a rumour. The news vanished from all Smashing Pumpkins web sites and also Aphex Start declared:
<< All evidence seems to deny the previously reported rumour of an Aphex Twin Smashing Pumpkins cover track. No further information will be posted without concrete evidence. That's why I hate posting rumours. Ah well, they're still fun.>>

5. AUGUST 2000 - NEW TRICKY TRACK???
The imusic mailing list reports that Tricky will contribute to a Smashing Pumpkins tribute album which should be released next spring. His contribution is a cover of the song "Luna" and it features Beth Gibbons from Portishead. Read the full story and tracklist here.
